Cooperative Issues Forum

Held in conjunction with the Cooperative Hall of Fame, the Cooperative Issues Forum is a public event that provides an opportunity for a panel discussion on topics of importance to the cooperative community.  In 2012, the Forum will serve as a high profile Washington,DCevent that celebrates the UN designated “International Year of Cooperatives”.  The 2012 program will focus on the international cooperative development work of US based development organizations and it will be followed by a reception (also at the National Press Club) that bridges to the Cooperative Hall of Fame that will be held later that same evening at the National Press Club.

PROPOSED PROGRAM

The program will be built around a keynote speaker, a panel discussion and an opportunity for Q&A. The program will be heavily focused around International Year of the Co-op, with potential speakers from organizations like USAID, OCDC, the Embassy, and representatives of US businesses that commercializes the products of these international cooperatives and brings them to US markets.

AUDIENCE FOR THE FORUM

There is no charge for attendance at the Forum and invitations are extended to a wide swath of theWashington,DCpublic policy community.  With the IYC focus for the 2012 program, this year invitations will be extended to these major groups:

  • Executive and Legislative branch staff with an interest in international development
  • Members of the press corps that cover international and economic development
  • Representatives of think tanks/NGO’s with a particular interest in international development
  • Representatives of theWashington,DCdiplomatic corps
  • Members of theWashingtonDCarea cooperative community
  • Individuals who will be attending the Cooperative Hall of Fame
