Eugene R. Bowen came to the cooperative movement later in life than most. After a 25-year career as a farm machinery manufacturing executive, he became executive secretary of the National Cooperative Business Association at the age of 53. He joined NCBA because he wanted to make a meaningful social contribution. He was soon convinced that in order to survive, the NCBA needed to expand. His efforts contributed mightily to the broad-based organization that exists today. His writings are in major cooperative libraries around the world.
