Since its founding in 1934, M.G. Mann was universally recognized as the father of the Farmers Cooperative Exchange (FCX, Inc.), the largest farm purchasing and marketing organization in the two Carolinas. While general manager of FCX and the Cotton Association from 1934 to 1958, Mann actively participated in the work of the North Carolina State Grange and helped form the Cooperative Council of North Carolina. He gave untiring support to cooperative education, building cooperative youth programs and working with local universities. Mann served on the board of directors of Nationwide Insurance Companies from 1944 to 1950.
