Owen Cooper helped organize the Mississippi Chemical Corporation in 1948 and served as its chief executive officer for more than 20 years. He played a key role in the formation of the India Farmers Fertilizer Cooperative (IFFCO) in 1966 which now serves millions of Indian farmers. Cooper served on the board of Cooperative Fertilizer International from 1968 to 1978, served as chairman of the American Institute of Cooperation, director of the National Council of Farmer Cooperatives, member and chairman of the Federal Farm Credit board and director of the Central Bank for Cooperatives. He was an organizer of the Mississippi Livestock Producers Association and Mississippi Forest Owners.
