Walter Harrison

Walter Harrison served for 31 years as a director of the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association. As a Georgia legislator, he was instrumental in the passage of legislation authorizing rural electric and telephone cooperatives. In 1937 he helped establish the Planters Electric Membership Corporation in Millen, Georgia, and he served on the board for nearly 48 years, 18 as its president. He was a director of the Planters Rural Telephone Cooperative, which he helped establish in 1940, and served for 24 years as manager of the Georgia Electric Membership Corporation.
